Common Questions

Custom orthotics questions, answered.

What happens at an orthotics assessment?

Your chiropractor takes your history and assesses your feet, how you stand and walk, and how your joints and posture work together from the feet up. A 3D foot scan captures your foot shape. You then get clear advice on whether orthotics are likely to help. The assessment, scan and custom orthotics are $550.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear shorts or loose pants that are easy to roll above the knee. Bring the shoes you wear most, such as your work footwear or running shoes, and any orthotics or insoles you already use. Also bring any imaging, a note of where you feel pain and your insurance details.

Does everyone need orthotics?

Not always. The assessment is there to find out. Your chiropractor may recommend orthotics, exercises, different footwear or a combination, and will explain why. Our aim is clear advice on what is likely to help your feet and your activity, so you know your options before you decide.

How long does it take to get used to orthotics, and is there follow-up?

Feet usually need time to adapt, so your chiropractor explains how to ease into wearing them. Follow-up and adjustments are part of the process. We check the fit and comfort after you start, and adjust them as your feet adapt, so your orthotics keep working for you.

Are orthotics covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans cover custom orthotics with a prescription. Ask us before your visit so we can tell you what your plan is likely to need. You do not need a referral to book an assessment. Coverage amounts differ between plans, so we suggest checking your policy as well.

What problems can orthotics help with, and can I combine them with other care?

People come to us with plantar fasciitis, heel pain, foot pain, Achilles problems, running-related issues and certain knee, hip or lower back conditions. Orthotics may help alongside other care, such as chiropractic treatment, shockwave therapy or an exercise plan from physiotherapy or kinesiology.
