Common Questions

Active rehab and kinesiology questions, answered.

What is a kinesiology session like?

Sessions are one-on-one. At your first visit, your kinesiologist assesses your strength, movement and goals, then builds a program around them. Later visits are supervised exercise with coaching on form, and the program progresses as you get stronger. The initial visit is 45 minutes and follow-ups run 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear workout clothes and supportive indoor shoes. At our Minoru clinic, every kinesiology visit includes access to the pool and fitness centre, so bring a swimsuit and towel if you would like to use the pool. Arrive no more than 30 minutes early to warm up, and stay afterwards as long as you like.

Do I need to be fit, or have an injury?

No. Programs start at your level, whether you are recovering from an injury or surgery, preparing for the physical demands of work, returning to sport, building balance or managing long-lasting pain. Your kinesiologist begins with gentle, graded movement and builds from there, so you are never asked to do more than you are ready for.

How many sessions will I need, and what do they cost?

It depends on your goals and how you respond. Your kinesiologist reviews your progress regularly and works toward giving you a program you can keep up on your own. A 60-minute follow-up is $105, a 45-minute follow-up is $95 and a 30-minute follow-up is $84.

Do I need a referral, and is kinesiology covered?

No referral is needed. We direct bill ICBC and WorkSafeBC for approved active rehab visits, and we bill many extended health plans. Kinesiology coverage differs from plan to plan, so check your policy first. Our coordinators are happy to confirm what you need before your visit by phone, seven days a week.

How does active rehab work with physiotherapy?

They fit together well. Your physiotherapist treats the injury and sets your direction, and your kinesiologist then helps you rebuild strength, endurance and confidence through supervised exercise. Because our team shares one file, your kinesiologist knows what your physiotherapist has found and can keep your program aligned with the rest of your care.
