Simon ZhaoRegistered Massage TherapistWhat happens at my first massage appointment?
Your registered massage therapist asks about your health, your goals and where you feel tension, then checks your posture and movement. You undress to your comfort level and are fully draped with sheets throughout, with only the area being treated uncovered. Pressure and technique are chosen to suit you that day.
How do I choose a massage type and pressure?
You do not have to choose alone. Tell your therapist what you want help with, and they will suggest therapeutic, deep tissue, sports, prenatal, relaxation or hot stone work. Pressure can be lighter or firmer at any time. Some soreness afterwards is common and should ease within a few days.
How long are visits, and how often should I come?
Visits are 30, 45 or 60 minutes. A 60-minute visit is $140, a 45-minute visit is $115 and a 30-minute visit is $90. How often you come depends on your goals. Your therapist suggests a schedule after your first visit and adjusts it as your body responds.
Who is massage therapy for?
It suits desk workers with tight shoulders, active people managing overuse, anyone recovering from an injury and anyone who wants to unwind. We also offer gentle prenatal massage during pregnancy and pediatric massage for children. Tell us when you book and our coordinators will match you with the right therapist.
Do I need a referral, and is it covered?
No referral is needed to book. We direct bill ICBC and most extended health plans, and you pay only any remaining balance. Plans differ on how much massage they cover and some ask for a doctor’s note, so check your policy before your visit. Our coordinators can answer billing questions any day of the week.
Can I combine massage with other treatment?
Yes, and it often works well. Massage can ease the muscle tension that builds up around an injury while your physiotherapist or chiropractor works on movement and strength. Because we share one file across disciplines, your RMT and the rest of your team can see how you are doing and keep your plan connected.
Direct billing, so you pay less at the desk.
We bill ICBC, WorkSafeBC, MSP and most extended health plans directly, including Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life and Green Shield. Bring your policy details to your first visit and we handle the rest. How direct billing works
